Hindus have commended SkyTeam, global airline alliance with 20 member airlines, for launching yoga rooms in their lounges at London Heathrow and Hong Kong International airports, calling it a step in the positive direction.

Yoga Room at SkyTeam Exclusive Lounge at Heathrow terminal four provides yoga mats and video exercises in a tranquil space. Yoga Room announcement at Hong Kong Exclusive Lounge tells the users to “reset your body”. SkyTeam has also developed mobile app Yoga on the Go in its selected Exclusive Lounges and in-flight entertainment systems.

Complimenting the SkyTeam vision of making yoga facility available in their lounges, Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada today, said that although introduced and nourished by Hinduism, yoga was a world heritage and liberation powerhouse to be utilized by all.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, pointed out that yoga, referred as “a living fossil” whose traces went back to around 2,000 BCE to Indus Valley civilization, was a mental and physical discipline for everybody to share and benefit from. According to Patanjali who codified it in Yoga Sutra, yoga was a methodical effort to attain perfection, through the control of the different elements of human nature, physical and psychical, Zed noted.

Rajan Zed urged SkyTeam CEO Perry A. Cantarutti to provide yoga rooms at their Exclusive Lounges at Istanbul Ataturk Airport and Sydney International Airport and upcoming Exclusive Lounges at Dubai International and Beijing Capital International.

Zed also suggested all top world airports to provide yoga facilities for the passengers if they wanted to help reduce their stress levels and be “world-class” airports.

According to USA’s National Institutes of Health; yoga may help one to feel more relaxed, be more flexible, improve posture, breathe deeply, and get rid of stress. According to an estimate, about 21 million Americans, including many celebrities, now practice yoga. Yoga was the repository of something basic in the human soul and psyche, Rajan Zed added.

Members of SkyTeam; formed in 2,000 and headquartered in Amsterdam Schiphol Airport; include Delta, China Southern, Air France, etc.; serving over 665 million passengers annually in 179 countries and 1,057 destinations. Michael Wisbrun is the Governing Board Chairman.
