Islamaabd: A consignment containing 148 live black scorpions, to be sent to Hong Kong, was seized by the anti-narcotics force at the Karachi airport on Wednesday.

It is the first seizure of scorpions in the province, though the media has been reporting about their illegal trade for the past many years, Dawn online reported.

A case was registered by the wildlife department later in the day.

"A Post Office employee who identified himself as Babar came to the export cargo section to book a consignment of 148 black scorpions on behalf of Abdur Raheem Azimee, a resident of Mirpurkhas," said wildlife game officer Rasheed Ahmed Khan.

The consignment was for Ching Chun, a resident of Hong Kong, he added.
