A Border Police guard was critically wounded and three others were lightly injured on Friday in what appeared to be a coordinated stabbing and shooting attack in two areas in Jerusalem’s Old City.

At least two terrorists armed with knives attacked a group of Border Police officers at Damascus Gate on Sultan Suleiman Street, critically injuring a female cop.

One of the attackers held a homemade Carl Gustav sub-machine gun, which is said to have jammed, averting a possibly much deadlier attack.

Both attackers were shot and killed by troops. The female officer, 20, was transferred to Hadassah Hospital Mount Scopus in Jerusalem for treatment. The hospital said she was undergoing surgery in efforts to save her life.

Two more people were stabbed by a third attacker at Zedekiah’s Cave nearby. One more person was being treated for shock.

The victims in that attack appear to be lightly injured. The attacker was killed. Over the past 18 months the Old City, and the Damascus Gate in particular, have seen several attacks by Palestinians, and in one case a Jordanian national.
