Damascus: At least 12 persons were killed and 40 injured in three car bombings in the rebel bastion of Idlib province in Syria on Friday, a monitor group reported.

At least 10 people were killed and 30 wounded when a car bomb tore through a marketplace in Dana town, Xinhua news agency cited the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as saying.

The toll could rise as many were critically wounded.

The Observatory which relies on a network of activists on the ground said the explosion was the third to hit Idlib within hours.

After midnight, two explosions rocked Dana simultaneously, killing two persons and wounding 10 others, said the Observatory.

Idlib has been witnessing an in-fighting between rebel groups, mainly the Al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front and the Ahrar al-Sham Movement.

Both were allies before the Ahrar al-Sham flipped and turned against Nusra, particularly when the world powers started targeting the group intently.

The international community branded Nusra as a terrorist organisation, which turned off many rebel groups from Nusra.

Nusra has recently driven Ahrar al-Sham out of Idlib, but bombing targeting both groups has continued.
