Islamabad : Pakistan and the United States have agreed to maintain momentum in bilateral relations through high-level engagements and stronger counter-terrorism cooperation.

A statement issued by the office of Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said that in talks with U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, both sides have "agreed to maintain high-level engagements to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest."

According to the Dawn, Pence told Abbasi over phone that Washington is keen to "further build this relationship" to ensure peace in the region.

This was the second call from a senior U.S. leader to Abbasi in as many days. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson had called a day earlier.

Tillerson is expected visit the region next week.
