Proddutur (Kadapa): The Proddutur Polikeka programme, which was organized in the town on Thursday, was a grand success as thousands of people attended it and raised slogans in support of Samaikyandhra. While Vagapandu Usha regaled the audience with her songs, Vishalandhra Maha Sabha convener Parakala Prabhakar with his sharp invectives gave a strong fillip to the Samaikyandhra movement in the busy trading town of Proddutur and kept the people spell bound. A woman dressed as Indira Gandhi and coming down from heaven to address the gathering also caught the attention of the people who gathered in large numbers.
Speaking on the occasion, Parakala Prabhakar lashed out at the MPs, Ministers and MLAs belonging to the Seemandhra region for failing to protect the interests of their region. Prabhakar said that whenever the issue of state bifurcation came up in the past, the integrationists always won in the end and not the separatists and even now, those who were rooting for a united state would win in the end.
The employees of the Uranium Corporation of India (UCIL) plant in Pulivendula decided to bring the activities in the UCIL to a standstill and strengthen the movement for keeping the state united. In this connection, the employees clashed with the police leading to stampede. The police had to resort to a mild lathi-charge to disperse the crowd and restore order. With this, the employees boycotted their duties.
In Kadapa town, people in residential localities took out a huge rally. The staff of the housing and sanitary departments and teachers of private schools organized rallies separately. In Kamalapuram, the Bus Chaityanya yatra undertaken by the teachers entered the second day. In Rayachoti, the staff of the APSRTC- JAC swept the roads with brooms. The ration shop dealers in Vempalle mandal, closed down their shops and took part in relay hunger strikes.
