The Collector along with City Mayor Dr Papa Lal chaired a meeting with the commissioners here in the Pragna Conference Hall at Collectorate on Friday.
​Khammam: District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar ordered the Municipal Commissioners to take necessary steps to make the towns and cities plastic-free apart from maintaining them clean and tidy.
The Collector along with City Mayor Dr Papa Lal chaired a meeting with the commissioners here in the Pragna Conference Hall at Collectorate on Friday.
Speaking in the meeting, the Collector ordered the officials to take necessary steps in providing basic facilities to people, and suggested them to make the towns and cities free from open defecation by constructing toilets in the welfare hostels and also community toilets near temples, mosques and churches and also at the various selected places.
The Collector suggested the Municipal commissioners for taking out regular checks of shops in towns and cities and discourage them from using plastic bags. “The programme of collecting wastes from every house must be done daily apart from identifying places for establishment of compost pits for the preparation of organic manure,” ordered the Collector.
He asked the officials to take necessary steps for successful implementation of Haritha Haram by establishing nurseries for growing the saplings required for plantation, and also asked them to take necessary steps for protecting the planted saplings.
The Collector ordered the Municipal commissioners to keep check on irregularities if any in giving one rupee tap connections along with taking necessary steps for preventing the spread of diseases by drying the wet lands and not allowing the open places to remain stagnant with water.
Mayor Dr Papa Lal ordered the Municipal Commissioners to take all the topics discussed in the meeting as an agenda.He also ordered the officials for completing of road widening works as early as possible to prevent traffic problems along with the laying fencing around the government lands from being encroached.
The Khammam Municipal Commissioner Srinivas, Madira Municipal Commissioner K Venkateshwarlu, Sattupalli Municipal Commissioner Dharani Kumar, the Project Director of MEPMA Venu Manohar and the Divisional Engineer Swarupa Rani were present along with others.
