Lakshmidevipalli: Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadipalli Kavitha on Monday called up on farmers to get their soil tested and implement the suggestions of agricultural officers and scientists.

Speaking at a programme on soil awareness held in connection with World Soil Day at the agricultural market yard in Lakshmidevipalli Mandal on Monday, she said the development of the nation was linked to the development of farmers. Officers would give a report on soil tests conducted within 15 days. Prime Minister’s Fasal Beema Yojana scheme provides crop insurance for farmers.

The farmers should be sensitised on how to achieve high yields by taking them on field trips to meet the successful farmers, she added.
Stating that water for irrigation would be supplied through Seetha Rama project, she said excess use of chemical fertilisers would lead to soil infertility. Crops grown according to the soil fertility would benefit the farmers, she said.

Agricultural Market committee chairman Malothu Harilal advised farmers to sell their produce only when the prices were remunerative. He said warehouses would be constructed in the remote areas for the benefit of farmers. Farmer Venkateswara Rao said every farmer should have thorough knowledge of the soil.

He cautioned farmers to be aware of irregularities committed while weighing the grains and of mischievous traders. Assistant Director Srinivasa Rao, Market Committee Secretary Nirmala and farmers from 23 mandals of the district participated in the programme.
