Khammam: Congress Bhavan wore a festive look on Friday with the party workers celebrating the AICC president Sonia Gandhi’s 70th birthday.Speaking on the occasion, DCC president Aitham Satyam said their supremo is never greedy of power. “Sonia Gandhi declined the top post though she had the chance in 2004 and let Dr Manmohan Singh to become the Prime Minister of the country.” Without Sonia Gandhi, Telangana would not have been possible at all, he said, urging the people to revere her as ‘Telangana Goddess’.

AICC chief did not hesitate in granting the six-decade-old wish of people in Telangana even though Congress faced electoral defeat in Andhra region, he said. In a related development at the camp office of the Congress Deputy Floor Leader in the Council Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, party workers led by Minority Cell State convener Md Fazal distributed cakes and sweets to schoolchildren. Fazal said that Sonia Gandhi firmly stood behind the people of Telangana and conceded their demand for a separate State notwithstanding the pressure exerted by Seemandhra leaders.
