Warangal: The volunteers of National Service Scheme of AVV Junior College took out a rally creating awareness on blood donation marking National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on Sunday.

A group of volunteers, led by the college NSS programme officer K Srinivas Rao, taken out the rally from the college to MGM circle in Warangal. He said the Blood Donation Day is celebrated in India on October 1 every year stressing on the need and importance of blood donation in the life of an individual.

The day is celebrated marking the birth day of late J G Jolly a physician, who pioneered voluntary blood donation movement in India and regarded as ‘Father of Transfusion Medicine’. He founded Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immuno-haematology to spread awareness on blood donation.

This year’s theme is ‘healthy youth towards voluntary blood donation habit’. The main objective of the rally is to encourage youth to come forward donating blood at regular intervals to save precious lives, Srinivas Rao pointed out.

At present only four persons out of 1000 individuals are donating blood voluntarily. It is aimed to increase the number of donors.

Regular and frequent blood donation indicates a clean and healthy life style of a person, he said. Transfusing or donating blood or its components to the needy person has become very important part of the humanity in the modern health care system. Hence every individual has to give importance to blood donation,’ he added.

The college staff Lazarus, Bhasker and Naresh, NSS volunteers Rajesh Kumar, Jagadeesh, Dattatreya, Venkatesh Raju, Rathnakar and others have participated in the programme.
