Kothagudem: Adivasis who have been agitating for their rights and implementation of the Agency laws like 1/70 in the past are now fighting for their own survival following the row between the Lambada and Koya communities.

The Adivasi agitation in the adjoining districts has spread to Bhadradri-Kothagudem district. The row arose with the Lambadas who are enjoying ST reservations in the Telugu States. In other States they are applicable for OC or BC status. The Koya sect Girijan organisations are accusing the Lambadas of enjoying the ST reservations duly belonged to them.

During the last three days Girijan organisations took up an agitation to preventing the Lambada teachers working in government schools from attending duty and asking those teaching to leave the institutions. Such agitations have become intense in Dummugudem, Charla, Gundala, Pinapaka, Manuguru and other Adivasi mandals. The police are trying their best to pacify both communities. The row is severely impacting the students.

Girijan organisations have conducted huge protest rallies in all mandals in the district demanding scrapping of reservations for Lambadas. Thousands of Girijans and members of various organisations in the town while expressing their protest demanded that the Lambada community should be deleted from the ST list and their Agency certificates should be cancelled. They represented to the Collector to that effect.
