Khammam Sanitary workers seek hike in pay

Khammam: The municipality workers working under city limits lay siege to Khammam municipal office demanding hike in their salaries here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, district secretary of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Shingu Narasimha Rao alleged that despite several pleas and agitations, the TRS government was not increasing the salaries of sanitary workers working under municipal corporation limits.
Before going to elections, Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had promised municipal workers of hike in their salaries once the party came to power. However, even after completing three-and-a-half years of rule, the government is not taking any measures for increasing the salaries of municipal workers, he pointed.
“When the government had increased the salaries of municipal workers of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation two times in these three years, why it is not increasing the salaries of workers working in other municipal corporations?” he questioned.
Stating that many municipal workers were living in miserable conditions with their meagre salaries, he demanded the government to hike their salaries immediately and fulfill the promise which the TRS had made to them.
District secretary of Central India Trade Union (CITU) Vishnu and leaders of IFTU and INTUC extended their support to the Municipal workers and participated in the dharna. Municipal workers V Janakamma, H Swathi, M Latha, J Lakshmi, M Jayamma, M Venkateshwarlu, D Mahesh, T Ramulu, K Hanumanthu and Suryam Babu were present along with others.
