Mahbubnagar: With neither State nor Centre taking care of construction of roads in Mahbubnagar, the condition of roads in the district has gone from bad to worst. Particularly, the condition of the road from Jadcherla to Mahbubnagar is ridden with countless pot holes and accidents including some of them fatal everyday has become order of the day on these roads.

Earlier in 2015, the Central government had announced the stretch between Jadcherla to Raichur as National Highway-167 and even released adequate funds for the construction of the new national highway between Jadcherla to Marikal for an initial stretch of 52 kilometres. Though two years have gone past, except the cutting of the trees on the road side and patch work here and there, nothing major has been done.

“We are witnessing horrifying experience every day while travelling on these roads. We request the authorities to immediately address this issue or else, these roads will be get damaged further and commuting will become a hell,” said Yadaiah, a regular commuter.

Earlier, the National Highway authorities had claimed that except some legal hurdles with regard to demolition of houses on the road side in Mahbubnagar, all clearances from the Forest and other departments for the construction of the NH 167 has been cleared and were expecting the works to be completed by 2018. However, even though the trees have been cut on the either sides of the roads, there is no sign of any construction activity on the Jadcherla-Mahbubnagar stretch.

Moreover, with the development of Mayuri Eco Tourism Park, every day hundreds of vehicles are plying on this stretch where tourists from all parts of the district commute on this road. The road areas near Jolly Hills and in front of Mayuri Park are pathetic causing one or two accidents every day.

“There is no one to take responsibility for the betterment of roads in the district. Even though we have two Ministers from the district, nothing much is being done to develop the roads. Even the roads connecting the villages and hamlets haven’t been developed and left in the middle without completion,” says Yadaiah, a watchman at Jolly Hills restaurant near Mayuri Park.

As the roads have gone from bad to worst in the district with huge potholes and rugged surfaces everywhere, the commuters are demanding the government to act immediately and lay new roads as early as possible before accidents claim lives of people.
