Farmers told to take up vegetables cultivation

Bhongir: District Collector Anitha Ramachandran informed that the government is ready to extend full cooperation to vegetable cultivating farmers in the State. She visited horticulture hubs located at Gopalpur, Nagaipally villages in Turkapally mandal on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, she informed that the district administration decided to establish horticulture hubs in 250 hectares at two villages in Turkapally mandal and in three villages in Bommalaramaram mandal. Observing that farmers, who cultivated paddy and cotton with high investments and water consumption could not get the expected profits due to various factors, she suggested farmers taking up vegetables cultivation which needed low investments and little water.

As Yadadri district is the neighbouring district to State Capital Hyderabad, the farmers of neighbouring villages can avail the opportunity of easy marketing, she underlined. “If vegetable famers form societies, the district administration is ready to provide bank loans to them to purchase autos for the transportation of vegetables to the markets,” she said. She assured to recommend bank loans to farmers who cultivate creeper vegetables cultivation.

She informed that horticulture department would provide vegetable saplings to SC, ST farmers at the cost of Rs 400 per acre. District Horticulture Officer Suresh Kumar, department officials Kavitha, Archana, MPDO Jalander Reddy, APO Ramulu, Nagaipally Sarpanch Laxmi, Gopalpur Sarpanch Narasimhulu and other farmers were participated.
