As part of police crackdown on illegal business of PDS (Public Distribution system) rice, the district police had booked an offender under PD (Preventive Detention) Act on Friday. District Superintendent of Police Prakash Javadekar charged the accused Tavanam Srinivas Reddy (35), a resident of Matampally of Suryapet district under PD Act.
Suryapet: As part of police crackdown on illegal business of PDS (Public Distribution system) rice, the district police had booked an offender under PD (Preventive Detention) Act on Friday. District Superintendent of Police Prakash Javadekar charged the accused Tavanam Srinivas Reddy (35), a resident of Matampally of Suryapet district under PD Act.
According to SP, the accused is notorious for his illegal business of PDS rice and he was in this business for the last 15 years. As part of the business, he purchases and purchases PDS rice from innocent people and fair price dealers in huge quantities at lower prices and sells the same at higher price at Kakinada and other places. So far, Huzurnagar police filed seven cases against Srinivas Reddy for his illegal business.
To put check to Srinivas Reddy’s illegal business for the welfare of poor people and in the interest of government, the Huzurnagar police filed PD act on him according to the provision of section 3(1) and 3(2) of the prevention of black marketing and maintenance of supplies of essential commodities act 1980, he informed.
The SP informed that persons who involved in illegal business of PDS, banned Gutkha and Ganja have to face music from the department of police. “The illegal business offenders would be bind over for committing the crime for first time. If the person commits the same offence for second time, he would be imprisoned along with fine and a rowdy sheet would be opened against him,” the SP said.
However, if they become habitual offender, the PD act would be imposed on such offenders, he underlined. SP Prakash Javedakar advised the fair price dealers not to sell PDS rice for others other than eligible persons and urged them to educate people about the government’s public distribution system to serve the purpose of the scheme.
The SP appreciated the legwork of Kodad DSP Ramana Reddy, Huzurnagar CI Narasimha Reddy and Mattampally SI Janaiah in arresting the accused with all evidences.
