Yadadri: A woman staff of Yadadri temple, Saroja, was caught with stolen hundi money during regular security check on Tuesday. According to official sources, the counting of temple hundi collection, received in the last 31 days, was started on the temple premises on Tuesday morning.
As the counting was going on, Saroja tried to go out. On suspicion, security police checked her and found Rs 27,280 stolen hundi money hidden in her sari folds. They took the matter to the notice of top officials besides handing over the offender to local police for investigation.
Meanwhile, temple Executive Officer Geetha Reddy, speaking to The Hans India, informed that as a part of transparency, the counting of one-month hundi collection is generally carried out in the presence of Endowment, Revenue, police and devotees under CCTV camera surveillance.
As part of duty, every staff member participates in counting of hundi money and interested locals and devotees are allowed to participate in the counting. Stating that this was first case of stealing of hundi money after she took charge, the Executive Officer informed that Saroja was caught redhandedly on Tuesday with stolen hundi amount and was handed over to the police after lodging a complaint at local Yadagirigutta police station.
Departmental action would be initiated against the accused, the EO said, adding that vigilance would be tightened multifold to avoid damage to the reputation of the temple. Meanwhile, the total hundi income of Yadadri Balalyam for the last 31 days stood at Rs 1.3 crore in cash, 0.39 grams gold and 1.9 kg of silver.
