Maha Sivaratri: Temples teem with devotees

Mahbubnagar: Thousands of devotees thronged Siva temples across erstwhile Mahbubnagar district to celebrate Maha Sivaratri with great fervour and devotion on Tuesday. Lalitha Someshwara Temple located at Somasila, on the banks of Krishna River, in Kollapur mandal of Nagarkurnool district, saw huge rush of devotees from 4 in the morning. The devotees took a dip in the river and took the darshan of Lord Someshwara.

On the other hand, the festive fervour at Shri Mallikarjuna Swami temple was also witnessed with lot of people visiting the temple right from the morning. On the occasion of Mahashivaratri, devotees observed fast and later in the evening visited the temples before taking any food and water. Meanwhile, the members of Brahmakumaris Trust displayed the models of 12 Jyotirlingas and explained the importance of all these places to the devotees.

In Jogulamba Gadwal district, Alampur MLA Sampath Kumar offered prayers at Bala Brammeshwara Swami temple. In Yanagundi Suryanadi, on the Karnataka border under Narayanapet mandal of Mahbubnagar, devotees took darshan of Mata Manikeshwari.

The Chalama Lingeshwara Swamy temple in Jadcherla mandal also witnessed thousands of devotees on the occasion. “Every year, we observe fasting on Maha Sivaratri and offer prayer at this temple.

As the temple is under banyan tree, it gives the natural ambience to the devotees,” said Jayamani, a government teacher, who visited the temple with her family. The Chalama Lingeshwara Swamy temple is totally run tribals and a lot of people from surrounding tribal hamlets and nearby villages come here for offering prayers.
