Mahbubnagar: The students’ organisations of ABVP, BJP, and BJYM along with representatives from Marikal, the newly-formed mandal headquarters in Mahbubnagar district, have demanded the government to immediately set up a new government junior college to facilitate the students belonging to economically weaker sections. “As part of government’s initiative to set up one government junior college in every mandal, Education Minister Kadiyam Srihari had promised to establish new Junior colleges in all the newly-formed mandals.

However, we are surprised to know that Marikal mandal has no mention in the list of recently announced 105 junior colleges in the newly-formed mandals released by the Office of Commissioner of Intermediate Education. Therefore, we are submitting a representation to district intermediate education officer to take immediate steps and through District Collector pursue the matter with the government and sanction a new government junior college for Marikal mandal.”

Recently, the Commissioner of Intermediate Education Dr Ashok, had announced the sanction of 105 new government junior colleges across the State. However, though all the newly-formed mandals in Mahbubnagar district were sanctioned junior colleges, the Marikal mandal which is the centre of three major constituencies of Devarkadra, Makthal and Narayanpet was missing from the list. “The district officials should actively pursue this matter with the government and officials of Commissioner of Intermediate Education.

Even though we have staged many protests and dharnas demanding for a new government junior college for Marikal in the past six months, the missing of mandal name in the list of newly-sanctioned junior colleges clearly reflects the apathy of officials,” informed the members of students union.
