Gadwal: With an aim to provide education and protection to girl children, District Collector Rajat Kumar Saini initiated a signature campaign in the district on Tuesday. While signing the first signature, to provide education and protection to girl children as part of ‘Ammaini Rakshiddam, Ammaini Chadividdam’ (Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao) by the District Welfare Department, the Collector said, “Girl children are no less than boys.

They are more intelligent and capable of doing many things on par with boys. Parents must realise this and should see that their girl children are sent to schools and must be given higher education. Earlier, there is a notion that only boys can look after them. But this is not correct. In fact, girls can give more love to their parents than the boys and they must therefore be protected and given all the support and education.”

The Collector said parents must shun performing child marriages and should not support any such acts as it was against the law. The welfare department of Gadwal is promoting the girl child protection and education across the district by way of signature campaign. In this, the department has decided to seek as many signatures of the people as possible so that the information reaches every individual.

“We are seeing there is lot of bias shown by the parents towards the girl child. The main reason for this is due to lack of awareness and prevailing social evils. However, we want to change this and have embarked upon a signature campaign, so that the word spreads to every person in the district,” informed Aruna, District Welfare Officer, Gadwal.
