Kothagudem: Protesting against the Supreme Court order on the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, CPM district leaders and activists staged protests and held rallies in the coal town on Tuesday. The participants raised slogans against the Central government.

Party State committee member M Venkateswarlu, who led the protests, called upon the party workers and leaders to fight against the rules of the Central government.Attacks against Dalits were increased during the BJP regime, he pointed out.

It should be pointed out here that the Supreme Court on March 20 had banned automatic arrests and registration of criminal cases under the Scheduled Castes (SC) and the Scheduled Tribes (ST) Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989.

Quoting the recent incident where nine people died in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and UP during Bharat Bandh, called by Dalit Organisations against the Supreme Court order, Venkateswarlu demanded the Centre restoration of the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act to its original form Later, leaders and workers burned an effigy of the Central government at the main center. Party leaders A Satyanarayana, Bhukya Ramesh, Anil, Kasangi and others participated in the protests.
