Khammam: Independence Day celebrations were organised with patriotic fervour across the district on Wednesday. Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao hoisted the national flag at a colourful ceremony organised here at Police Parade grounds and received the guard of honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Nageswara Rao explained to the people about the various development activities implemented by the State government. The State government, he said, had not implemented development activities but also launched several welfare schemes for the benefit of all sections of people.
He urged the people to utilise the Kanti Velugu programme launched by the State government to carry out eye tests. The government has allotted Rs 106 crore for the programme, he said.
The Minister also said elaborate arrangements were made for conducting screening tests for 14.40 lakh people across the district along with distributing 1.5 lakh spectacles and medicines free of cost.
The Mission Bhagiratha works which were taken up investing Rs 4,500 crore for supplying pure drinking water to every household in the district were at final stage and would be inaugurated by Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao very soon, he said.
The fourth phase of Telanganku Haritha Haram has begun with a target of planting about 1.97 croref saplings across the district. It was the responsibility of everyone to protect the sapling, he said.
The total number of village panchayats are now 584 with establishment of around 167 new gram panchayats in the district, he added. Khammam is in top position in construction of double bedroom houses. A good number of houses are constructed and are distributed successfully to the beneficiaries, he said.
He also explained to the people about the several welfare schemes launched for welfare of people belonging to the weaker sections, such as SC, ST, BC and Minorities. He listed the scheme like Kalyana Lakshmi, Shadi Mubarak, Asara pensions and Sheep Rearing scheme, Fish Rearing and Cattle Rearing schemes.
Various tableaux explaining the development activities were displayed on the occasion, Cultural activities were organised Later the Minister distributed to cheques to the beneficiaries under various welfare schemes along with giving away the prizes to the employees who discharged their duties perfectly.
District Chief Judge M Lakshman, the District Collector D S Lokesh Kumar, Commissioner of Police Tafseer Iqbal, Zilla Parishad Chairperson Gadepalli Kavitha, SC Corporation chariman Pidamarthi Ravi, Seed Development Corporation Chairman Kondabala Koteshwar Rao, MLA’s Puvvada Ajay Kumar and Banothu Madal Lal, DCCB Chairman Muvva Vijay Babu, the president of Farmers Coordination Committee N Venkateshwar Rao, City Mayor Dr G Papa Lal, Municipal Commissioner Sandeep Kumar Jha, DCP K Suresh Kumar and District Forest Officer Sunil Hiramath were present were presenta t the programme.
