Minister for Minor Irrigation T G Venkatesh on Sunday inaugurated the Dobhi Ghat constructed at a cost of Rs. 7.7 lakh in the 44rd ward on the banks of Tungabhadra River. He had laid foundation stones for Stri Shakti Bhavan, to be built at a cost of Rs. 45 lakh at Ramalingeswara Nagar and a modern community latrine to be constructed at a cost of Rs. 19 lakh.

Addressing the meeting on the occasion, the minister said that Kurnool was the capital of Andhra State and it was shifted to Hyderabad later giving a severe blow to the development of the city. He said that the development works like side drains, cement concrete roads, drinking water pipelines, modern toilets, community buildings and development of parks were being undertaken in phases in the city.

He said that the city was surrounded by rivers and rivulets and a ring road was needed to overcome this problem. "A sewerage plant should be constructed to treat drainage water before released into the river," he added. He said that he was committed to undertake more development programmes in the city. MLC Sudhakar Babu said that the minister was undertaking development works in the city from his personal funds when he could not secure them from the government.

Municipal commissioner VVS Murthy, former mayor Bangi Anantaiah, municipal engineer Surendra, former corporators and others were present.
