Atmakuru (Kurnool): Demanding withdrawal of the GO 72 issued on August 8 which would pave way for Palamuru lift irrigation, Byreddy Rajasekhar Reddy, president of Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi party launched ‘pada yatra’ from the Potireddipadu head regulator on Saturday.

Addressing the meeting before pada yatra, Byreddy said that if 70 tmc was released to Palamuru lift irrigation project for three districts in Telangana, the share of Krishna water for Rayalaseema would drastically come down and there would be no water left for Potireddipadu head regulator.

He alleged that the state government has issued the GO 72 to construct Palamuru project to irrigate 10 lakh acres in three districts of Telangana - Mahbubnagar, Nalgonda and Rangareddy. The pada yatra which was launched here on Saturday would be concluded at Malyala lift irrigation project near Handri Niva project.

Referring to the water to be released to Palamuru project, he said that if two tmc was released everyday to Palamuru project, there would be a shortfall of 70 tmc for Rayalaseema. He recalled that KCR described Potireddipadu project as an illegal project and now the same KCR had illegally brought pressure on the state government for Palamuru project.

He demanded the government to announce the share of water for Rayalaseema. “Though Kiran Kumar Reddy, Chandrababu Naidu and YS Vijayamma were from Rayalaseema, they were not raising their voice against this injustice,” he remarked.
They should launch hunger strike at Potireddipadu project, he suggested.
