SBI cashier steals Rs 44 lakh from bank

In a classic case of fence eating the crop, a cashier in a public sector undertaking bank had embezzled Rs. 44 lakh from various accounts by stealing the password of the manager of the branch. The whole issue came into light recently when the officials who found out the embezzlement tried to hush up the issue by discreetly putting back the money.

Atmakuru (Kurnool): In a classic case of fence eating the crop, a cashier in a public sector undertaking bank had embezzled Rs. 44 lakh from various accounts by stealing the password of the manager of the branch. The whole issue came into light recently when the officials who found out the embezzlement tried to hush up the issue by discreetly putting back the money.
According to sources, cashier Qadir has been working in Kottapalli branch of the State Bank of India since 2011. After he learnt the password of the branch manager he started withdrawing money from the bank. He had withdrawn Rs. 30 lakh first time and Rs. 14 lakh the second time. However, when he tried to withdraw Rs. 6 lakh the whole racket came to light to the notice of the Bank manager Ganganna.
The Bank officials have been trying hard to keep the whole issue under wraps and discreetly recovering the stolen money. Finally, the State Bank India higher officials suspended the cashier and launched full-scale inquiry into the whole racket.
Since the State Bank branch situated in a remote area in the district, the issue did not attract the attention of higher officials of the Bank so far.
