Osmania University is all set to host the biggest celebration ever. With its centenary celebrations to kick-start from Wednesday, arrangements are nearing completion and the security is being heightened since the festivities would be attended by President Pranab Mukherjee, apart from the Governor and the Chief Minister.

Massive security arrangements in place; dais to have only a seating capacity for nine

Hyderabad: Osmania University is all set to host the biggest celebration ever. With its centenary celebrations to kick-start from Wednesday, arrangements are nearing completion and the security is being heightened since the festivities would be attended by President Pranab Mukherjee, apart from the Governor and the Chief Minister.

According to the police, besides local policemen, four DCPs, two Additional DCPs, 12 ACPs, 74 Inspectors, 229 Sub Inspectors and 2000 policemen would be deployed on the premises. In addition to this, traffic policemen and personnel of communications wing would ensure that the programme goes of smoothly. 64 CCTV cameras have already been installed to monitor the entire programme.

According to university sources, the dais would have a capacity of only nine persons. While the President would be the chief guest of programme, Governor E S L Narasimhan would preside over the function. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, MP K Keshav Rao, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan, OU Vice Chancellor Prof S Ramchandram, Registrar Prof Ch Gopal Reddy would be the guests of honour.

Arrangements are also being made to accommodate maximum number of audience, which is now pegged at 18,000. Under the categorisation, the A1 and A2 rows will hold 1,000 VIPs, while in B1 will hold, 2,000 alumni. While B2 and B3 would be reserved for more than 3,000 faculty members including permanent, contract, part-time and also retired staff. While B4 will have 1,500 students from affiliated colleges, C1 would be reserved for 128 specially-abled students.

The rows from C2 to C6 would accommodate 10,000 students who would apply online.On this occasion, the President would be laying foundation for several new projects in the university as part of improving amenities with an estimated cost of Rs 200 crore. The students and faculty who are interested in attending the fete can apply online on the university’s website.
