The Telangana government has taken up the Charminar Pedestrian Project (CPP) on priority mode in the wake of the Global Entrepreneurship Summit which will be held from November 28 with the delegation led by Ms Ivanka Trump, daughter of US President Donald Trump.

After 17 years, the project has reached the priority mode as the CPP has been holding discussions in this matter since 2000 when the then government allocated Rs 139 cr for the project.

However, post-2000, the project never really took off. Now, the pedestrian project around the 425- year old monument would help generate both direct and indirect employment thus increasing the revenue of the government.

The immovable asset prices near the monument would take a rise with this project and with the beauty of the heritage structure enhanced, the tourism activity is sure to increase further enriching the livelihoods of the people living near the monument.

The project cost was estimated to be Rs 479.86 crore in 2010 but only GHMC received only Rs 1 crore for the project in the year 2015 and so far only 10% of the project is completed. The rest is expected to be completed in the next one year.
