Hyderabad: A Public Interest Litigation petition has been filed in the High Court at Hyderabad by former Minister and BJP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy questioning the increase in estimates for purchase of electro mechanical (E&M) equipment for Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme (PRLIS).

Reddy, who has filed this petition as a party-in-person, alleged that around Rs 2,400 crore of public exchequer had been lost due to this increase in cost of motors and pumps relating to lift packages 1,5,8 & 16 of the said project and has sought interim direction to stop payments to the contractors relating to the equipment.

The petitioner informed the court that although he had made written complaints on this issue to various authorities on July 29, no action had been taken in this regard and therefore he was forced to approach the High Court seeking a direction for a CBI probe into these alleged irregularities.

The Chief Secretary of Telangana government, Special Chief Secretary, Irrigation & CAD Department, CBI, Central Vigilance Commission and others have been made parties as Respondents in this petition.
