Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) so far removed 51 illegal hoardings across the city. The GHMC started works to remove illegal hoardings on January 22.

The GHMC awarded the contract to remove illegal hoardings that sprang up across the city to a private firm. The GHMC advertising wing said the firm removed 24 hoardings while the rest 27 were voluntarily removed by the commercial establishments that installed them.

According to a GHMC survey on April 19, 2017, the number of unauthorised hoardings in the city were 333. The GHMC officials said the newly established unauthorised hoardings will be identified and removed.

Engineers were posted specially to supervise the removal of the hoardings. Maximum of 18 hoardings were removed in the west zone, followed by central zone and east zone (10 each), north zone (7) and south zone (6). The civic body in a press release said the hoardings put up by the advertising agencies that defaulted payment of annual fee would be removed.
