Medaram (Bhupalpally): Even the squirrel contributes its mite. So, the saying goes. When the religious event is as massive as Medaram Jatara, billed as one of the world’s biggest crowd-pulling congregation where more than one crore pilgrims diverge to, it needs a lot of support not just from the government, but also from various quarters. Contributing its mite to the jatara conduct was Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL).

Since the formation of Telangana State, the SCCL that has nearly 56,000 employees on its rolls and with a turnover of over Rs 17,000 crore is one of the major economic components. This apart, the coal miner’s role in the State’s effort to achieve power surplus is also laudable.

The coal miner which has been doing yeoman service taking up several activities such as community development, environment management, empowering people, initiatives for local area development by encouraging small scale industries etc., as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

In addition to these, the SCCL is also lending its helping hand in the conduct of Sammakka-Saralamma Jatara for the last few years. This time, the company has allocated Rs 81 lakh, in addition to deploying more than 120 of its employees to assist the administration.

No doubt, despite the best possible measures in place to ensure the safety, security and the comfort of the pilgrims, taking care of everything is a humongous task for the district administration.

The Coal Miner is well known for its Bharat Scouts and Guides wings and the life saver rescue team. These teams have the experience of helping the authorities in events like Ganesh Nimajjan in Hyderabad, Godavari Pushkaralu and Mukkoti Ekadasi at Bhadrachalam.

To help the Jatara administration, the SCCL has sent a 32-member Bharat Scouts and Guides, a 64-member rescue team and 30 ace swimmers. While the Scouts and Guides will assist the administration in maintaining the queues besides assisting the old-aged and the devotees, the rescue teams will help people if there was any untoward incident. The ace swimmers will be deployed at the Jampannavagu (stream) where devotees take holy bath.
