Hyderabad: A new political party will take birth in Telangana. The Telangana JAC chairman Prof M Kodandaram on Sunday said that his organisation would form a party and would live up to the aspirations of the people.

Addressing the extended steering committee meeting of the TJAC at S S R Gardens near Turkayamjal in Rangareddy district, Kodandaram recalled Telangana ideologue Prof Jayashankar once saying that “securing Telangana is not the end but beginning of shouldering more responsibilities”.

He quoted Prof Jayashankar as saying “Responsibilities will increase after formation of Telangana and you should be ready for those responsibilities.” The air has been thick with speculation for a long time that Prof Kodandaram will announce the formation of the party to corner the government and ensure protection of democratic rights “under threat from the resent TRS dispensation” as well as to strive for bettering the living conditions of people across the state.

The JAC chairman said, “We have got nothing to lose. We cannot go further down from the present situation. We have only to gain. This is our Telangana, which we have achieved after fighting. We know how to fight, and we also know how to indulge in politics and we will prove it,” said Kodandaram amidst sloganeering and bursting of crackers by JAC activists.

However, he said that there was need to move forward cautiously. Politics also means unified effort and it is not just elections. Some leaders have come into politics for money and indulge in settlements after winning but one who is with the people will remain with the people, he added.

He made it clear that the JAC would continue to be as a people’s forum. “One who thinks that JAC would shut shop would be proved wrong”, he said. He said that the JAC had tried to bring the issues of farmers to the notice of the Chief Minister and also the agriculture minister, but no one listened.

“We submitted a report to the court suggesting measures to come to the rescue of the farmers. The court asked the government to form farmers’ committees and it sought 45 days-time, but the government is yet to respond to the court”, said Kodandaram. The JAC chief said that there is problem in every other district in the state.

The government should go to the rescue of farmers with regard to the fake seeds, but it is supporting the fake seed companies. He said that no encouragement was given to the farmers by the government and the poly house companies are seen everywhere.

He wanted the JAC leaders to continue to fight for the issues of farmers and unemployed youth. He said that the government had announced filling of some posts, but the struggle should continue until the demand of JAC to declare a recruitment calendar is achieved. He said that the JAC would organise a public meeting on the farmers’ issues and asked the JAC leaders to suggest a name for the proposed meeting.

The JAC adopted resolutions demanding the government to stop indiscriminate land acquisition in the name of projects, take steps to stop the farmers’ suicides, provide correct remunerative prices to the farmers and provide ex-gratia to the farmers, who are affected because of natural calamities.
