In addition to the plan introducing the Metro Rail services from Biodiversity Park to Shamshabad with the extension of Corridor-III from Raidurg to Biodiversity Park (30.7 km), plans are also drawn to develop townships near Metro stations en route the corridor.

The SPV, Hyderabad Airport Metro Limited (HAML), created by the government will be jointly promoted by Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) and Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).

HAML Objectives -

  • To operate the Metro rail to the airport
  • To continue planning, design, coordination and monitoring of integrated townships, commercial complexes, shopping malls and other infrastructure facilities
  • To take up road capacity improvement works for relieving the city by way of construction of new roads and other transport modes
  • To facilitate transit-oriented development
  • To run taxi cabs and other transport modes

The route to Shamshabad airport will have townships equipped with both residential and commercial establishments which will be constructed by HAML. Besides offering airport connectivity, the intention is to undertake a hassle-free journey for residents to their workplaces in different areas such Gachibowli, Shamshabad and others.

The townships in Gachibowli, Narsingi, State Police Academy, Shamshabad and others areas will be developed and include apartments, shopping centres, commercial workplaces and other infrastructure.

Speaking in this regard, HAML Managing Director NVS Reddy said that the real challenge of the project lies in making it financially viable and they plan to develop a couple of Hitech city areas en route to the airport to accommodate more IT and other industries.
