Replying to the questions on the issues related to pond conservation, plant clearing and pollution factories movements during the Question Hour in the House, Minister KT Rama Rao said that ponds are contaminated by human error.

He said that there are 185 ponds in the GHMC range and 3,132 ponds under the HMDA but the ponds are getting polluted by sewage water.

KTR said, “We are cleaning up 40 dams within the ORR range. In the first phase, Rs 207 crore would be spent to clear 20 ponds. Hyderabad has 54 stormwater drains (Nalas) and 90 percent sewage goes into the Musi river.”

The Minister further mentioned, “Hussain Sagar's biological oxygen levels have been reduced, hence it has been working with the government's cleanliness. The government is committed to restoration and redundancy of Hyderabad ponds.”

On pollution factories, KTR said, “There are 1,234 polluting industries, and the pollution factories are making arrangements to move across the city. 100 polluting industries are set to leave in three months. Another 400 industries will be moved to Pharma City. Already 13 companies have been shut down for environmental damage.”
