While the Telangana government made Telugu compulsory up to Class 10 from this academic year, the decision to admissions to degree courses in Telugu medium beginning 2018-19 has been discontinued.

According to the new rule, except one or two colleges, no other government institute in Hyderabad will admit students in Telugu medium courses from this year.

The students who migrate to the city from rural areas to pursue degree courses will be the ones who will be the most impacted by this decision.

However, the officials maintained that the decision was made keeping students’ interests in view stressing that the reduction of seats in a course or medium was taken based on demand. The exact situation will be clarified once the DOST notification is released.
