Subway outlet within the Hyderabad Central Mall premises in Punjagutta was forced to close on Thursday after a consumer filed a complaint with the police over spotting cockroaches in an aerated drink served at the fast food joint.

The place was raided by the food inspectors from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) who further served a notice to the outlet for functioning under unhygienic conditions.

The complainant, Marunganti Vamshikrishna Reddy shared a post on social media regarding the May 16 incident with the footage of him questioning a female staff, “How can you serve cockroaches? My daughter had a cockroach in her mouth.”

The 2.19 minute-long video went viral with over 6,700 people sharing the footage. He later registered a complaint with the Punjagutta police and GHMC’s food safety department demanding action against the Subway franchise. He mentioned that the kitchen was infested with cockroaches and also that the staff was also reusing lids and cups.
