A roundtable meeting was organized in Hyderabad by various students, teachers and parents forums to point out Telangana government’s incompetence in dealing with school fee hike.

Demanding that the fees be capped at Rs 50,000 in the city, they added that the expenses in rural areas are lower when compared to Hyderabad, hence the fees should be capped at Rs 25,000.

Various association members present at the event opined that the schools are charging exorbitant fees and the government should bring in some norms and issue guidelines mentioning how much fee can be charged at the primary, secondary, and high school level.

Recalling the state government’s promise to provide free KG to PG education, the members of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) stated that the schools should not be allowed to charge more than Rs 50,000 per academic year.

Further, the members of these organizations said that schools charging unreasonable fees in the name of English medium education should be asked to teach in Telugu till class 5 and that they will stop corporate schools and colleges from establishing institutes in rural areas.
