Off late, several hoax messages regarding criminal gangs have been doing the rounds on social media. Police have arrested two students for spreading rumours about the movement of a child-kidnapping gang on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Off late, several hoax messages regarding criminal gangs have been doing the rounds on social media. Police have arrested two students for spreading rumours about the movement of a child-kidnapping gang on the outskirts of Hyderabad.

Mohammed Ashwaq, a resident of Omar Colony, and Syed Rahim, from Abushare Colony, both are students.

A complaint was filed by Mohammed Abdul Hameed from Rajeev Gandhi Nagar, regarding a video and audio message sent WhatsApp with SIM number (8897756***) showing the visuals of bodies and injured people.

Following this, Hameed approached police who stated that the video and audio files were fake and were being shared on social media with an intention to create panic among people throwing suspicion on innocents such as beggars of being child kidnappers.

A case has been registered under Section 67 of the IT Act, Sections 505, 153-A and 295 of the IPC. Upon investigation, the two were arrested and their mobile phones were seized. The two would be produced before the court for judicial remand.
