Dwellers of some local areas including in posh Banjara Hills are worrying a lot as the rain preparedness works are going at snail pace. Even as the monsoon season is approaching fast, the civic authorities are yet to complete the works to prevent inundation and floods during heavy rains.

Locals felt they might face hardships again in the coming season if the works are not completed before the onset of the monsoon.

According to a report in an English daily, The residents of Banjara Hills Road No. 2, Mallikarjuna Nagar (Malkajgiri), Ranjan Bowli in Falaknuma and Sai Nagar Colony in Lingojiguda division of LB Nagar explained thier woes in the last monsoon. They were left stranded in flood water for more than half day due to water stagnation.

Malkajgiri residents have complained to Prime Minster Narendra Modi through the official public grievance portal their grievances, but still unresolved. They explained how the overflow from a small outlet was leading to local flooding. The outlet is located under the railway tracks and falls under the jurisdiction of the South Central Railway zone.

Locals complained that the mixing of rainwater with sewage water is a serious sanitation issue that can have severe health implications. Residents of Renuka Colony in Rajan Bowli said uneven and dug-up roads have resulted in massive water logging.

The GHMC authorities said that works are under progress to mitigate flooding of the low lying areas this monsoon season. The authorities maintained the civic body is also prepared to provide relief to the dwellers of flood prone colonies.
