Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao on Wednesday said that the coming elections were between the development and opportunism, with Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao striving for development and all opposition party leaders uniting with opportunism.
Addressing a gathering of leaders from Telugu Desam and Congress, who joined the ruling TRS at Telangana Bhavan on Wednesday, Harish Rao said that four parties were uniting because they want seats and not development.
“There used to be a saying, ‘one shot and two birds down’, but now, one shot and four parties will be finished. It is an election between party which brought Telangana and parties which stalled formation of Telangana,” said Harish Rao.
There is only TRS wave in the State and car is racing away in the election campaign, he added.
The TRS leader lashed out at Congress party for aligning with Telugu Desam reminding that the yellow party had opposed Telangana formation.
“Day in day out, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu files cases against Telangana projects. He has adopted Palamuru, but now he has even filed case on the Palamuru Lift Irrigation, which is aimed at giving water to people of Mahbubnagar and also Kodangal.
Naidu is creating obstructions in Kaleshwaram project also,” said Rao. He also added that TJS Chief Prof M Kodandaram would face the wrath of farmers for creating obstacles in the way of projects.
Harish Rao criticised Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s assurance of special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
“We have no problem with Centre giving special status to Andhra Pradesh, but as per the AP Reorganisation Act, Telangana should also get the same.
Rahul Gandhi is not talking about special status to Telangana, which would result in Telangana industries shifting to Andhra Pradesh resulting in loss of jobs to the youth in the State.
The Telangana leaders are not even questioning their leadership on this,” said Rao.
The TRS leader also targeted Congress leader Revanth Reddy stating that he had done nothing for the people of Kodangal.
“Your leader is only a man of talks, not of works. If you elect P Narender Reddy, TRS candidate, he will take up development works for you,” said Harish, adding that TRS would form government by winning more than 100 seats.
Earlier, several leaders from Congress and TDP from Nakrekal constituency joined TRS in the presence of Energy Minister G Jagdish Reddy.
Reddy said that though there were big stalwarts from Congress party in Nalgonda who were elected many a time, but they did nothing for the district.
The TRS government has taken up development works worth Rs 40,000 crore in the last four-and-a -half years, he added.
