BENGALURU: On Friday the state government, as a precautionary measure to check regarding the migration of labour from the state of Karnataka, had increased the man working days under the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) from 100 to 150 days.

RV Deshpande the revenue minister had said that the drought might affect the farming by dragging it down in the coming months and this can be the cause to trigger the migration. Following the drought which had affected 100 of 217 taluks in 24 districts, the government has also decided to form four separate cabinet sub-committees for the four revenue sub-divisions in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Kalaburgi and Belagavi to look over the implementation of the drought-mitigation measures.

The revenue minister had also said that the drought of the kharif season has left the state approaching towards the rabi season with a deficit rainfall of 49%. He said the government has banned the transport of fodder from Karnataka to the neighbouring states as the cattle of the state was being affected.
