Amaravati: The meteorological department has said that the Phethai cyclone has deteriorated into a severe cyclonic storm. The cyclone is is currently stationed 720 km off Sriharikota.

It is likely to make a landfall between East Godavari and Vizag coast on the night of December 17. The cyclone is likely to move at a velocity of 160 km per hour. The RGS is keeping a close watch on the cyclone.

Continuous messages are being sent through the IVRS system to the people of the low-lying areas.
