HYDERABAD: On Monday in Delhi, the Centre had declared the approval for the setting up of AIIMS in Bibinagar, Telangana. The approval was declared by Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad.

The 224-acre institute will be fully operational in next academic year. The total amount that was spent for the setting up the institute is estimated to be 1,028 crore and will be set up under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY) of the Centre.

A team from the Centre who had visited the institute have also fulfilled the additional requirements like encumbrance free land (without litigation and encroachments) along with the partially completed hospital building at the site. Along with 20 MVA power supply, a 33/11KV dedicated line, an alternate power source and 1.5MLD water supply was asked for during the inspection visit apart from a four-lane dedicated approach road to the institute.

However, the project will be a 960-bedded facility with a medical college with seats and 42 100 superspeciality services. It will be comprised of basic science departments like anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pharmacology, community medicine and forensic medicine along with other departments like physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) and ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homoeopathy (AYUSH) facilities.
