BENGALURU: The state of Karnataka and the Telangana state have nominated the forts and monuments belonging to the Deccan Sultanate for a global heritage tag from UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization). The monuments that have been proposed include Vijayapura Gol Gumbaz, the Haft Gumbaz tombs of Kalaburagi district and the Bidar Royal Citadel.

The architecture is predominantly Indo-Islamic, with influences from Persia and central Asia. The Deccan Sultanate capitals symbolises the character of royal, religious, funerary monuments (tombs and mausoleums), defence structures commissioned for the royal citadel and urban quarters. They share distinct cultural traditions of the sultanate kingdoms of both Indian the Middle Eastern also their influence on art, music, languages and literature.

Venkatesh T, the commissioner of department of archaeology, museums and heritage, told a source that in coordination with the Telangana government, the proposal has already been prepared and sent to the Archaeological Survey of India in New Delhi.
