The High Court in Telangana on Thursday dismissed the plea filed by the BC leader R Krishnaiah against the allocation of 22 per cent reservation to BCs in Gram Panchayat polls. Krishnaiah in his plea alleged that the reservation provided to the backward classes (BC) is less than the recommended 34 per cent and appealed to cancel the ordinance thereby dismissing the election notification.

However, the court observed that the ordinance issued by the government will not be stalled and the state will go for the elections on the scheduled dates. Asserting that the decrease of BC reservations is not against the constitution, the court stated that there is no line mentioned in it in providing reservations to BCs. It also directed the state government to file a counter affidavit in the plea and adjourned the hearing to four weeks.
