Visakhapatnam :The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials intercepted a train at Visakhapatnam on January 4 ,which was travelling from Gauhati to Secundrabad (Train No. 12514) and arrested Two persons who were smuggling 3.3kg gold which is worth of Rs 1.08 Crores of market value.

According to the DRI sources, said that

it was found that the passengers were carrying gold concealed inside packets of the cotton vest (banian) worn by them. These packets were specially made for the purpose of concealment of the contraband. The total weight of the smuggled gold was found to be 3314 grams. Inquiries have revealed that the gold was smuggled in to India from Myanmar and someone handed them over the smuggled gold for onward transfer to Secunderabad.

The passengers admitted that the gold was smuggled into the country and they did not have any valid documents to prove the licit purchase/import of the said gold. A total of 3314 Grams of smuggled gold recovered from the passengers, valued at Rs. 1,08,69,920/- has been seized under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Two passengers and a mastermind involved in smuggling of the gold have been arrested on Tuesday . Further investigation is in on.
