BENGALURU: The busiest metro stations of the city Byappanahalli and Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Majestic, seems to be having poor facilities for pedestrians who are heading to and exiting the stations.

As it has been 8 years since the Byappanahalli station has been inaugurated, it is yet to get a foot overbridge (FOB) for pedestrians crossing the accident-prone Old Madras Road. The officials of the BBMP said that they will open the overbridges only after the Lok Sabha elections.

Aswathy Narayanan, a Metro passenger on Old Madras Road said that, “It’s too risky to cross this busy road, particularly during peak hours. The BBMP has started the FOB work, but is yet to complete it. Pavements in front of the station have been encroached upon by cabs, autos and BMTC buses.”

A senior BBMP official said that, “Both FOBs are being constructed on a PPP basis. At Majestic, the foundation work is complete and the structure will be erected in 20 days. In Byappanahalli, foundation work is going on. Both will be opened to the public only after elections due to the model code of conduct.”

BL Yashavanth Chavan, chief public relations officer of BMRCL, said testing of an escalator has been done. “It will be commissioned after getting clearance from the department of electrical inspectorate,” he said.
