Tiling a bathroom floor is one of the most cost-effective home improvement projects that needs moderate skills and correct materials.
But you just need to take care to make the tiling relevant to the rest of the colour palette in the room. You can make your bathroom look great at an affordable price! So, don’t miss these how-to’s!
Choosing the right tile color and style
When selecting a tile for the floor, the color should sync well with paint color and shower or bathtub. If your bathroom floor tends to get messy from dust and debris, consider a tile that isn’t a solid color – choose tiles of a neutral colour with a light design on them. Floral and sea motifs are very soothing on bathroom tiles.
Always bring home samples of your top choices from the store and set them on the floor next to your other items in the room. If you are an extremely busy person with not much help at yoru service then it’s best to settle for a dark colour, you don’t want accumulated dirt making your tile look repugnant. So, ask yourself how often you can clean? If you can just clean it once a month then Sea shades and browns work well provided they blend with the other colour in the room.
Choosing the right texture
Ceramic: This material is usually called non-porcelain. Of late, you can shop for ceramic tiles with fun textures like those of wooden planks, granite, and bronze. Always make sure your tiles remain leveled.
Clay tiles: These are recommended if you can clean them often enough, at least once a week. Due to softer nature, they do come in various colours, patterns, and styles. They are perfect for floors and walls. But usage can’t afford to be very heavy – clay is known to be delicate. Always make sure your tiles remain leveled.
Porcelain: Porcelain tiles are kiln-fired, so the scope for textures is high. They are highly water-resistant and are therefore frost-resistant. So, consider porcelain if you are living in a humid and/or cold region. Glazed porcelain tiles are very durable.
Natural Stone: This is durable when sealed well. It has gyrations on the surface that houseowners may love (for the texture and look they lend to the room).
It usually carries a great installation cost as the material is a little more difficult to cut and takes greater skill. You have to keep in mind that the choice of colours is not as varied with natural stones. However, this material offers a very rich look to the room.
Choosing the right size and shape of tile for your bathroom floor
-If you want to make your bathroom floor feel larger, use larger tiles. In general, larger shapes make the room feel larger while a busier pattern may contribute to a smaller-feeling room.
-If you have larger tiles then there will be fewer grout lines and this, in turn, will make the room look expansive. It is also low-maintenance.
-Pasting the tiles at an angle will also trick the eye into thinking the room is larger and the viewer won’t be able to “add up” how many tiles line across the floor.
-Mixing two different sizes in a seemingly random pattern is an interesting proposition.
