Buying lunch will burn a hole in your pocket

You may have to set aside an hour in the morning if you need to cook lunch to pack it. You may have to forego an hour of good much-needed morning sleep. So, you just buy lunch either from your office cafeteria or from an eatery close to your workplace. Does this sound like you?

In a recent study don’t by US lifestyle experts most Americans in the North coast eat turkey slices and sandwiches with dollops of mayonnaise. They also include crackers/chips and cheese. A few of them may prefer a fruit.

For an Indian, this may probably just mean rotis/rice and a side dish. If you are living with your family that can prepare a unique lunch menu for you each day then we leave you out of the picture. But if you are heading to work straight from your bachelor’s pad then doesn’t the whole paradigm change for you? You often fork out Rs. 100 for a simple dal-roti-subzi combo. Of course, you end up spending a lot more buying your lunch then you will if you pack it from home! However, here’s the thing…

- Most people like things that are easy. We don't want to go through the hassle of putting lunch together or we don't want to go through the hassle of buying/stocking up groceries for the week ahead.

- Most workers are looking for an excuse to chat. Many people relish the opportunity to eat lunch with a co-worker; even just walking to grab lunch is an attractive social opportunity, Just said.

- Books say, “Never Eat Alone”! Networking books like Never Eat Alone say you will miss on opportunities to network professionally and bond at work if you skip that walk to the nearby cafeteria with ‘lazy’ colleagues who want to buy lunch.

But ask yourself if that is really true. What if it is pleasant outside? You can rather eat outside at a nice park. You can just carry your lunch box to the office cafeteria to keep in touch with the latest gossip at workplace.
