Diwali – the festival of lights, a celebration of the triumph of good over evil. The festival dispels darkness in its own way. Diwali is a celebration in every possible way and would encourage no reason to spoil the essence of the gala.

The questions that arise here are:

“Is Diwali the same anymore?”

“Do we really celebrate Diwali today with all due respect to its historical significance?”

Well, the answer to the questions above is dubious. It is yes partly and no as well.

Yes, because the festival brings fun, joy and togetherness. For kids it is the most awaited festival as they are free from school, wear new clothes and enjoy to the fullest. Family get-togethers, sweets, pooja, new clothes etc all add to the festivity. Diwali dispels darkness from our lives and fills it with brightness and joy.

The lamps we light drives away the darkness of the new moon night while fireworks glitter the sky.

Unfortunately, the crackers we burst on Diwali have turned out to be the biggest bane of the day. The injuries caused by fireworks spoil the fun for many families and leave permanent scars. The purpose of celebration is marred because of mishaps which are mere results of carelessness! There is a marked increase over the last few years in the number of cases involving loss of eyesight, serious burns and injuries caused by fireworks. Sadly, most of these cases involve youngsters. The basic and common reason behind such accidents is the wrong handling and misuse of fireworks. It is a must for everyone to take some precautions to avoid such tragedies. We often don’t realise the impending disasters and the potential danger it might lead to. If we are not cautious, Diwali which dispels darkness of the day will lead us into complete darkness and sorrow instead. Thus, it is better to be safe than sorry!

Try making this Diwali an eco-sensitive one as fireworks destroy the environment to a large extent. The air and noise pollution caused by the fireworks is also a serious concern to ponder on. Why spoil the festive spirit and make it a nuisance when we can attain eternal bliss just by celebrating it the way it should be done. Let this Diwali be an explosion of joy by celebrating it the right way.

Say YES to a happy and safe Diwali!

Safety tips
