Mumbai: With a surge in interest towards men’s clothing, and the changing attitude towards fashion in the country, Van Heusen and GQ India have collaborated to launch Fashion Nights next month.

Van Heusen GQ Fashion Nights, to be held at Grand Hyatt here on December 1-2, will present an array of designer apparel for men.

The event will showcase "the best menswear created in this country, giving it absolute primacy and prominence", said Che Kurrien, editor, GQ India.

"This initiative will not only set a grand stage for Indian menswear designers, but also reflect the financial clout wielded by a vast market that has seen explosive growth in recent years,” Kurrien added in a statement.

Vinay Bhopatkar, chief operating officer, Van Heusen and People, said that as part of the collaboration, they will also unveil their latest collection for the upcoming spring-summer season for next year.

"With our audience becoming more conscious about their looks, it was only logical for us to associate with this initiative that provides us an opportunity to consolidate our position as a fashion leader in the category," he said.

Commencing the first phase of the event, GQ hosted model auditions exclusively for men on Monday evening.

A special jury selected 18 models for the upcoming event.

"The criterion for selection is always the confidence that the model can bring on to the ramp with that additional 'X' factor. We will definitely keep the look sharp and international since we have India's leading designers participating at this platform," choreographer and show director Aparna Bahl said of the judging process.

"We're having fashion nights dedicated to menswear after a very long time and it's going to be extremely exciting for everybody to witness," she added.
