Winter air affects our skin in several ways and makes it dry and itchy. This is when the magical properties of cocoa, banana and mulberry act best by moisturizing skin from deep within, say experts.
Cocoa extracted from cacao beans, is a moisturizer, nourisher, skin repairing agent and an excellent anti-oxidant.
"Cocoa butter contains fatty acids, which improves skin moisture retention and elasticity. It is effective both as an every day moisturizer for all skin types and in easing skin problems such as eczema.
"It is also very effective when used on difficult areas like elbows, knees and ankles as it reduces dryness," Vaseline skincare expert Aparna Santhanam said in a statement.
As a moisturizer on various skin types, she said that cocoa butter works on all skin types but is particularly effective for normal to dry and very dry skin.
"Cocoa butter as a daily moisturizer helps to even skin texture and leave skin feeling smooth. It is rich in anti-oxidants, omega 3 and omega 6. These are all good anti-ageing, stretch mark and anti-scar ingredients," she said.
Disha Meher, national expert - skin and nails, Lakmé Salon, says that it is advisable that women opt for fruit-based products and services, especially fruits such as banana, apples, and oranges that are rich in vitamins, potassium and iron.
"In fact, banana is one of the best fruit moisturizers and is known to nourish and revitalize skin," she added.
Sangeeta Velaskar, vice president and head, medical services and research and development, Kaya Limited, believes in the power of mulberry.
“Mulberry extract is a powerhouse of nutrients and is an excellent source of protein. Mulberry is a huge source of iron, calcium, Vitamins A, C, E and K, folate, thiamine, pyridoxine, niacin and fiber as well. The anti-oxidants found in mulberry also repair free radicals. Mulberry extracts are ideal for the winters as they work effectively on dry skin. It prevents dehydration of the skin by maintaining the moisture balance," she shared.
